Israel’s intensified attacks on Lebanon are causing death, injury and hardship, with civilians bearing the brunt. The IDF is occupying southern Lebanon, going beyond the line of the Litani river, and a million people are displaced in Beirut. This is despite an alleged ceasefire. As in Gaza, the ceasefire is a fiction, which Israel has repeatedly used to occupy more territory. Now open war looks likely again between Iran and Israel. While Trump repeatedly tells us that peace talks with Iran are progressing, the continued bombing and invasion of Lebanon is a major sticking point.
Israel is out of control. But it can only behave with impunity because the British, US and European governments have been complicit in Netanyahu’s genocide in Gaza for the past two and a half years. Keir Starmer’s government has been arming and supporting Israel, and while he says Britain is not involved in the Iran war, that is a lie. British bases have been used by the US to bomb Iran, and no pressure has been put on Trump or Netanyahu to stop their latest illegal war.
The Palestine and anti-war movement must stand with the people of Palestine, Lebanon and Iran.
