STATEMENT

Trump and Netanyahu’s war on Iran is a brutal onslaught which has killed over 2000 people, overwhelmingly civilians, bombing schools and hospitals. It has tried to effect illegal regime change, has brought death and destruction across the Middle East, and is in danger of widening into further conflict. Israel’s invasion and bombing of Lebanon which goes alongside it is a further war crime.

Meanwhile there is no ceasefire for the Palestinians in Gaza and Israel’s apartheid is deepening as settler attacks continue unabated in the West Bank. The Israeli government plans for a ‘greater Israel’ threaten even more expansion of these horrors.

This illegal war is also creating a global economic crisis as energy prices soar.

Keir Starmer’s government claims it wants to stay out of Trump’s war, realising he is not winning. But Starmer has allowed the US to use British bases for its bombing missions, with planes taking off from Fairford to kill Iranians. This follows his total complicity with the genocide in Gaza.

Public opinion is strongly against this war both here and in the US. Our demonstration is calling for an end to the bombing of Iran, hands off Lebanon and freedom for Palestine. The government recognises how unpopular the war is, and Reform and the Tories are being forced to backtrack on their support for Trump. Marching can make a difference in ending British complicity with this murderous bombing.

We demand nothing short of a complete break from Trump and his criminal foreign policy. He has attacked or threatened Venezuela, Cuba, Greenland and now Iran, and is the greatest threat to world peace today. We need a policy based on justice and peace, not on endless warmongering.

The people of Britain and of the Middle East are all losers in this war. We will pay the human and economic costs unless we end it now.

Join the demonstrations on Saturday 21 March in London and around the country.
