Palestine Coalition Statement on trial of Ben & Chris

STATEMENT: Defend the right to protest, Palestine

The trial of Chris Nineham and Ben Jamal has been postponed until 23 February 2026.

This means that by the time they can fully defend themselves in court, the criminal charges will have been hanging over them for more than a year.

The postponement has fundamentally been caused by prosecution attempts – very late in the day – to bolster their case, and their refusal to disclose material which could be useful for the defence.

The trial has now been extended to six days. The fact that it is happening at all, is an attack on everyone who has demonstrated and protested for Palestine over the last twenty months.

The outcome will be critical for the way policing of protest is conducted in this country.

The attempt to silence solidarity for the Palestinian people in this country is part of a global effort to isolate the Palestinian people in their struggle for liberation. It is not working and will not work.

We thank everyone who has supported Chris and Ben this far. We know you will continue to defend the right to protest and that the movement for Palestine will continue to grow until the day of liberation arrives.
