STATEMENT – Right to Protest

Stop the War fully condemns the government’s proposed proscription of Palestine Action, and expresses its solidarity with Palestine Action’s members and supporters.

This planned repressive act further extends the assault on the Palestinian solidarity movement and, by extension, the democratic rights of all.  It follows the prosecution of Kneecap, the charges against key organisers of our peaceful protests, draconian action already taken against other protesters, and increasing police restrictions on demonstrations, imposed at the behest of those who support Israel’s genocide.

Stop the War prioritises mass democratic mobilisation in its work, but we support the right of anyone to take any action in support of the Palestinian people and in opposition to the British government’s complicit involvement in Israel’s crimes that does not harm people.

The banning of Palestine Action is therefore a threat to us all, and a very dangerous precedent.  We demand that the government think again, drop this proposal and end their military, diplomatic, intelligence and political support for Israel’s genocide against the heroic Palestinian people.
