STOP THE WAR

Stop the War condemns the use of the language of invasion and occupation being used about US cities by senior administration figures and we welcome the fact that the strength of the protests has forced the Defence Secretary Mark Esper to u-turn and oppose the mobilisation of the army.

The repressive response to domestic protests is partly the result of the increasing militarisation of society. It also reflects the fact that a significant part of the American elite has been shaped by recent US wars to think about popular opposition at home in the same terms as resistance to occupation abroad.

We call for the withdrawal of all military personnel from US cities. We support demands to suspend arms and weapons sales from Britain to the US and we send solidarity to the Black Lives Matter movement and all those protesting against racism in the US.

The campaign against foreign wars and military intervention is also a struggle for justice at home.
