R.I.P. Hetty Bower 1905-2013. Tireless and inspirational campaigner for international peace and justice up till the day she died, aged 108.

Stop the War Coalition

Hetty Bower was nine years old at the outbreak of the first world war in 1914. She was a tireless campaigner for peace throughout her life.

She marched on all the big anti-war demonstrations of the past decade, only complaining that they walked too slowly! In 2011, at the age of 106, she was made The Guardian Woman of the Year and featured in the Channel 4 News report below.

Hetty died from a heart attack, aged 108, on 12 November 2013.

She was an inspiration to all who knew her and her remarkable commitment to the fight for international peace and justice, which she maintained right up to her death.
