To build for the international conference in London on 20 June, John Rees, StW national officer and founding member, and Alex Gordon, StW national officer and former president of the RMT, are on tour in France.
The first meeting in Nantes had a lively 470 strong audience and was standing room only. The meeting passed an emergency message of solidarity with Chris Nineham and Ben Jamal who had outrageously been found guilty earlier that day of charges relating to a peaceful Palestine protest.
The message reads:
“Meeting today in Nantes against the war, we denounce the conviction of Ben Jamal and Chris Nineham in the UK. This conviction of two activists who tirelessly campaign against the genocide of the Palestinian people is a very worrying sign. In the UK, this conviction is considered unprecedented since the 1930s. In France, we are seeing the same ingredients of the same repressive, freedom-crushing policies. We will not let this go unchallenged. Solidarity with Ben Jamal and Chris Nineham. The convictions against these activists must be overturned.”

In the true spirit of internationalism the motion was penned on NEU note paper by French MP Jérôme Legavre.
