Around forty people demonstrated outside the Conservative Club and Sarah Newton MPs office in Truro, Cornwall on 1 December 2015. We brought placards and candles for the people of Raqqa.

We chanted ‘Cameron don’t attack, Syria will be your Iraq’, ‘When they say warfare, we say welfare’, ‘Tories, Tories, Tories, Out, Out, Out’ and ‘1 2 3 4, we don’t want your bloody war, 5 6 7 8, spend it on the welfare state’.

The demo was called at around 10pm on Monday night. Despite the short notice and the fact that only Facebook was used, the attendance was excellent and lots of people have contacted us since to say they either couldn’t come or didn’t find out about it in time. In just 32 hours the Facebook page has 122 likes and I’m sure that will grow.

On 28 November group of about 30 committed and well informed people gathered in the office of Sarah Newton MP for Truro and Falmouth on Saturday afternoon.

Those present spoke passionately against extending the bombing campaign to Syria. Sarah Newton listened politely, but it was clear from the discussion that she was likely to be voting with the Government.

Hopefully a larger number of us will be able to attend a demo/vigil outside her office on Tuesday 1 December. Here is the link to the event on Facebook »

We also now have a “Not in my name Cornwall message board” on Facebook for the people of Cornwall to put their thoughts, feelings and opinions on, with hashtags to alert MPs in Cornwall of what we think about this drive to war and further destruction in Syria and Iraq.
