Greatcoats for Goalposts was a Philosophy Football night out to mark the centenary of the 1914 Christmas Football Truce. This film of the night out both celebrates the 90 minutes of football that stopped World War One on Christmas Day 1914 while questioning why the following day, Boxing Day 1914, the two sides went back to blowing each other to smithereens, and in what good cause, with what good effect? A celebration therefore of sport’s enduring porential to resist, Football v War.

Featuring ideas from Dave Zirin, David Goldblatt and Lindsey German, music by Grace Petrie, Jimmy Ross and Finlay Allison, spoken word from Musa Okwonga and comedy from Kate Smurthwaite and Simon Munnery.

Organised by Philosophy Football in association with the RMT trade union, supported by Thompsons Solicitors, When Saturday Comes and New Statesman. Film by Gregg McDonald of Consequential Films.
