PSC STATEMENT:
We call on the British government to end the economic and
political isolation of Gaza immediately. 1.5 million Palestinians
in Gaza are suffering a humanitarian disaster with 87% of Gazans
living below the poverty line.

Our government must insist that Israel complies with
international law and ends its continuing expansion of
settlements on occupied Palestinian land. There are currently
500,000 Israeli settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Our government must respect the International Court of Justice
advisory opinion regarding the illegal wall in the West Bank and
Jerusalem and hold Israel to account. The route of the Wall is
effectively annexing 10 per cent of the West Bank to Israel,
leaving 49,400 Palestinians stranded between the Green Line and
the wall.

Our government must recognise those elected democratically by the
Palestinian people and help to reconcile the differences between
Fatah and Hamas. All illegally held political prisoners by both
sides, especially children, must be released.

An end to 40 years of occupation and a just settlement is the
only way to achieve peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.

World Against War conference - never more needed

3) RHYTHMS OF PEACE CONCERT: 30 NOVEMBER
4) STOP THE WAR SEASONAL GREETING CARDS

**********************************
1) WORLD AGAINST WAR CONFERENCE: NEVER MORE NEEDED
The latest speakers added to the World Against War
international conference in London on Saturday 1 December
are Mrs. Marzieh Mortazi Langroudi, a leading member of the
Iranian group Mothers Against War, Ibrahim Mousawi the
editor of Hezbollah's newspaper in Lebanon and Karamat Ali
from the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and
Research.

They join many other prominent peace campaigners -- from the
Middle East, Asia, the USA and around the world -- who will
speak at the conference and lead discussions on:
* The current situation in Iraq
* The occupation in Afghanistan
* The threats against Iran
* US aggression from Eastern Europe to Latin America.

Among the speakers at the conference are Dennis Halliday and
Hans Von Sponeck, former United Nations representatives in
Iraq, Hassan Jumaa, President of the Basra Oil Workers
Union, Jawad Al Khalassi, General Secretary Iraq Foundation
Congress, Hannah Ibrahim from Women's Will Iraq, Ivona
Novomestská, Czech No Bases Campaign, Brigitte Ostmeyer from
the new German Left party, Eqyptian MP Hamdeen Sabahy, Tony
Benn and Lindsey German from Stop the War Coalition, Mark
Thomas, campaigning comedian, George Galloway MP, Craig
Murray, ex-British Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Iraqi exile
Sami Ramadani, and representatives from United for Peace and
Justice (USA), the Communist Party of Lebanon and
Venezuela's UNT union confederation.

This conference was never more needed. George Bush has asked
the US Congress to add 196 billion dollars as a supplement
to the 450 billion dollars he has already got for war
spending in 2008. He calls the supplemental spending the
"Global War on Terror Request" and it includes plans for a
new bunker busting bomb which could be geared toward bombing
underground targets in Iran.

And Britain's prime minister Gordon Brown has now repeatedly
stated his support for Bush's horrifying plans for endless
global war, based on what Brown calls "our shared values and
our shared destiny".

The conference is open to all - whether delegates from
political organisations, trade unions, community groups and
campaigns, or from individuals. All Stop the War's local
groups and affiliated organisations have been asked to
ensure that we have the widest possible representation at
this international peace conference, which will bring
together peace campaigners from across the world and which
will be of paramount importance in helping to devise the
antiwar movement's strategy for building international
opposition to the intensifying warmongering of George Bush
and his allies. Registration for the conference can be made
online or by telephoning the Stop the War Coalition national
office (see below).

1) MOST IMPORTANT CONFERENCE SINCE IRAQ WAR
THE WORLD AGAINST WAR
LONDON, SATURDAY 1 DECEMBER
WESTMINSTER CENTRAL HALL
http://tinyurl.com/2d9whw

The World Against War Conference will be the most important
international anti war event since the invasion of Iraq. We are
watching a re-run of the path to an illegal and immoral war that
produced the disaster of the Iraq invasion. The lies and
distortions now being used to justify a "pre-emptive" attack
against Iran are those used by the same war criminals in 2002-3
(see Fact and Lies: http://tinyurl.com/2jxh5e).

This is why Stop the War is asking every local Stop the War group
to ensure their area is well represented by approaching local
unions, mosques, churches, councillors groups, student unions,
campaigning organisations and so forth to ask for delegations.
And it is why we are asking all of our affiliated organisations
to help maximise the widest possible representation of the
antiwar movement at the World Against War Conference.

Latest international speakers to be confirmed for the conference
include Mrs. Marzieh Mortazi Langroudi, a leading member of the
Iranian group Mothers against War, Ibrahim Mousawi the editor of
Hezbollah's newspaper, and Brigitte Ostmeyer from new German Left
party. Speakers from Iraq will include Hasaan Juma from the Iraqi
Federation of Oil Unions, Jawad Al-Khalisi from the Iraq National
Foundation Congress, Hannah Ibrahim from Womens' Will and Iraqi
exile Sami Ramadani.

Also speaking will be broadcaster and comedian Mark Thomas, Tony
Benn, Lindsey German from Stop the War and Craig Murray, former
UK ambassador to Uzbekistan. For a full speakers list, go to

Already registered for the conference are representatives of the
antiwar movements in Canada, the USA, South Korea, Poland, the
Czech Republic, Greece, Venezuela and many more. With so many
delegates coming from across the world, we are in urgent need of
accommodation. If you can offer accommodation, please e-mail the
Stop the War office or phone Richard on 0777 4936556

This conference is open to all, whether delegates from
organisations or individuals. FEE:

2) NOVEMBER 24: IRAN NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION
With George Bush's threats against Iran mounting by the day, Stop
the War is asking all of its local groups to organise DON'T
ATTACK IRAN stalls and petitioning on Saturday 24 November. Many
groups have already published plans for events on that day,
including die-ins, vigils and local demonstrations. Stop the War
will be publishing an open letter shortly to encourage people to
register their opposition to the warmongers' plans.

Stop the War has produced a special DON'T ATTACK IRAN placard,
designed by artist David Gentleman, for use on the day of action.

3) STUDENTS DON'T ATTACK IRAN DAY
In addition to the national day of action on the 24 November,
there will be a national DON'T ATTACK IRAN day for students in
universities and colleges on Thursday 22 November.

Details of activities around the country are being collated by
the national Stop the War office. For example, the London
colleges UCL, LSE, Goldsmiths and SOAS are organising
co-ordinated die-ins with sirens and flares. Stop the War is
asking every college in every locality to join this initiative.
All information regarding the students' day of action should be
forwarded to Stewart at the Stop the War national office, who is
also available for advice etc to college groups planning events
on 22 November. If you wish to participate in the national

1) BOOK NOW FOR WORLD AGAINST WAR CONFERENCE
LONDON, SATURDAY 1 DECEMBER
WESTMINSTER CENTRAL HALL
Tickets for the international World Against War Conference on
Saturday 1 December can now be booked online (see
http://tinyurl.com/3cpum5) and many delegations from across the
world have already registered.

The conference is open to all and is clearly urgent, given George
Bush's insistence that we face "the spectre of World War III, if
Iran gains even the knowledge needed to make a nuclear weapon" -
wild talk clearly aimed at preparing the ground for an attack. Dr
El Baradei, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency
says there is no evidence of a nuclear weaponisation programme in
Iran and that Bush should stop "hyping the issue that could mean
a major conflagration, and not only regionally but globally." The
Russian President puts it more colourfully. George Bush, he says,
is like "a madman running around with a razor".

Developing international co-ordination of opposition to Bush's
plans for war against Iran will be a central focus of the World
Against War Conference. Stop the War has already been contacted
by peace groups from Spain, Canada, South Korea and Germany to
start this process. Building links between the anti occupation
movements in the Middle East and the anti war movements in the
west will be particularly important and there will be speakers
from Iraq, including union leader Hassan Juma and Jawad Al
Khalisi from the Iraqi Foundation Congress, and from Iran, Egypt
and the Lebanon, from where we are expecting representatives from
Hezbollah and the Lebanese Communist Party.

All Stop the War local groups are being asked to build for this
important conference, pushing for delegations from unions,
colleges, mosques, churches, political organisations, including
local Labour, Liberal Democrat, Green party, and Respect
branches, local councillors groups, local campaigns and every
single anti-war organisation. This conference can be critical in
taking the next step for the anti war movement both in Britain
and across the world.

There is a new leaflet out for the conference, specially designed
by artist David Gentleman. Phone the Stop the War office on 020
7278 6694 to order the leaflet.

Booking for the conference can be made by post, telephone or

2) STOPPING WORLD WAR III
The idea that Iran -- which has an economy the size of Finland
and which has not invaded another country since the late 18th
century -- is intent on provoking World War III is preposterous.
That doesn't stop the mainstream media yet again acting as
willing dupes for George Bush's war policies, dutifully helping
to prepare the ground for an attack on Iran, just as it did for
the invasion of Iraq.

The country which truly has the potential to start World War III
is the United States, with an economy 68 times larger than
Iran's, defence spending 110 times greater and a long history of
intervening in other countries - having invaded or bombed over 20
since 1945. A new book and film by the US author Norman Solomon,
titled WAR MADE EASY, shows how the same methods of "threat
inflation" have been used time and again to soften up the
American general public for their governments' endless war
policies (See http://tinyurl.com/yu85tx )

Pointing out how the warmongers are once again using lies and
deception to justify another illegal war in no way implies
support for the Iranian regime, any more than the anti-war
movement supported Saddam Hussein's brutal tyranny when we
opposed the Iraq war. It is for the Iranian people -- and
certainly not George Bush -- to decide how they are to be
governed. What is undeniable - as the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan show -- is that the freedom to make that choice
becomes impossible in a country which has been devastated by mass
carnage and "shock and awe" bombing.

You would think that Gordon Brown, having seen how disastrous the
wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have turned out, would be wary about
supporting another illegal war provoked by George Bush. Not a
chance. He has already indicated that his support will be
unconditional.

We opposed the Iraq war because it was illegal and we predicted
it would bring horrific levels of death and suffering to the
Iraqi people. In this we have been proved tragically correct. The
same fate awaits the Iranian people unless we mobilise the
largest possible opposition to the war policies of our leaders.

**********************************
3) DON'T ATTACK IRAN DAYS OF ACTION
The intensifying threats against Iran were also central to Stop
the War's annual national conference on Saturday 27 October,
attended by around 500 delegates and observers from 118 different
groups attended, showing the continuing breadth of our coalition.

The conference voted to organise a DON'T ATTACK IRAN national day
of action. On Saturday 24 November , to include die-ins, pickets,
protests and public meetings. It was also agreed to start
planning protest action, if an attack on Iran becomes imminent,
and to encourage the widest possible support for Stop the War's
Iran Pledge (see: http://tinyurl.com/2cnjmo).

One of the most encouraging aspects of the conference was the
high representation from student organisations, reflecting the
recent growth in anti-war activity in colleges across the
country. Eighty student delegates attended an activist meeting at
the conference to discuss building the movement and specifically
to plan for mobilising a students' DON'T ATTACK IRAN national day
of action on Thursday 22 November.

Among the platform speakers from the platform were Annas Al
Takriti from the British Muslim Initiative, the Guardian's Seumas
Milne, Lawyer of the Year Phil Shiner, currently exposing British
torture in Iraq, Kate Hudson from CND, Lindsey German from Stop
the War, George Solomou from Military Families against the War,
Iraqi journalist Sami Ramadani, Campaign Iran's Somaye Zadeh, and
MPs George Galloway and Jeremy Corbyn.

A wide range of delegates spoke from the floor on issues ranging
from Islamophobia and civil liberties to growing western
intervention in Africa. With the media once again collaborating
in laying the ground for yet more war, a media worker spoke about
the importance of the Media Workers Against the War organisation,
which has an upcoming conference on Saturday 17 November, titled
WAR, TRUTH AND THE MEDIA TODAY (see: http://tinyurl.com/ypzqbo )
