NEWSLETTER No. 0907 30 April 2007 Email office@stopwar.org.uk T: 020 7278 6694 Web: www.stopwar.org.uk IN THIS NEWSLETTER: 1 TURN UP THE HEAT ON NEXT PRIME MINISTER 2. NEW STOP THE WAR LEAFLETS 3 MILITARY FAMILIES CAMPAIGN DAY Saturday 12 May 4 TOM MORELLO OF RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE GIG 5. ENOUGH DEMONSTRATION: 9 JUNE 6. G8 PROTEST GERMANY, 2/3 JUNE ************************************** We can also use the open letter as a petition on stalls, at trade union meetings and rallies to get the widest possible campaign in motion. We will then have a high profile hand-in of the letter to Blair's successor when he takes office in 7 or 8 weeks time. Watch out for George Browns hustings meetings across the country and make sure that the anti-war movement is there to remind him that we will not tolerate a Blair Mark II. The situation in Iraq and Afghanistan is getting more and more desperate Everyone from Ex-CIA chiefs to recently returned British squaddies say that the US Coalition war in Iraq is lost. Meanwhile death and destruction continue to stalk the country. In the US the Democrats have been forced to call for troops out. We must bring our own politicians to heel. 2. TOM MORELLO GIG I am enormously proud to be an American. I would say that the things our corporate-controlled government has done at best are shameful, and at worst, genocidal People often get tricked into going overseas and fighting Uncle Sam's Wall Street wars, but these are people who knew what they were fighting for here at home. I think that that's so much more courageous and brave." Rage Against the Machines guitarist and political and social activist, Tom Morello, performs for the Bring The Troops Home concert at Londons SCALA (Kings Cross) on Monday 4 June 2007. He will be supported by: Ed Harcourt, (www.edharcourt.com), Frank Turner (www.frank-turner.com) and with comedian, Mark Steel as MC. Toms new album as The Nightwatchman, One Mans Revolution is an urgent portrait of a world in turmoil. The Grammy Award-winning guitarist of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, compares war zones in the US and Iraq.
