Media Release, 17 January 2005 Press Conference: Territorial Army Soldier Resigns by Military Families Against the War www.mfaw.org.uk Press Conference George Solomou, from the London Regiment of the TA, will announce his resignation from the army and detail his reasons. George is resigning in protest at the continuing illegal occupation of Iraq by British and US forces. Speaking to Military Families Against the War today, he said 'I believe the occupation of Iraq to be illegal under international law. Were I to be called up I would therefore have no choice but to refuse to go. I am resigning from the army in protest at the war and continued occupation of Iraq'. George will be joined at the press conference by Foday Yumkella, another soldier from the TA. Foday was injured in Basra. He will be present to talk about the treatment he has received from the army since his return from Iraq. Rose Gentle, mother of Fusilier Gordon Gentle and a founder of Military Families Against the War, will attend in support of George and Foday and will talk about the future of the campaign.
