Miltary Families Against War Press Statement

Red Caps families demand justice for their sons

This Thursday the families of the six Red Cap soldiers killed in Iraq will be meeting with the board of inquiry investigating the deaths of their sons. This meeting will take place at the Victory Services Club in Marble Arch.

The MOD has already decided to overrule the limited findings of the board of inquiry into their deaths and has sent the families a letter to this effect. The original inquiry recommended further investigation into a number of officers but the MOD has stopped these investigations and the officers concerned have since been promoted.

The families have decided to arrange a press conference independently of the MOD.

The Victory Services club, which is funded by the MOD, has refused to allow the families to hold a press conference on their premises. The families have been told that they would have to guarantee in advance that there would be no criticism of the army at the press conference.

The families of the six Red Cap soldiers will give their reaction to the failure of the MOD to bring any disciplinary charges against officers who they believe responsible for errors leading to the deaths of their sons in Iraq.

The venue of the press conference will be sent out as soon as possible.

Note: Military Families against the War have been asked to help organize this press conference by the families and are pleased to do so.
