           Press Release 25/04/2005

The Iraq War exploded onto the political agenda yesterday. The Mail on Sunday revealed the serious doubts that the attorney general held regarding the legality of war.

Stop the War has argued for over three years that an unprovoked war with a sovereign country would be both immoral and illegal.

Since the war ended the whole sordid tale has unravelled. No weapons of mass destruction; no 45 minute threat; no intelligence; no United Nations resolution; no serious legal advice; no resignations and no apologies.

Tony Blair has manipulated the security services and lied to Parliament and the people of this country. This election is the opportunity to confront these lies. Stop the War is organising hustings throughout the country to make the positions of the candidates on the war as widely known as possible.

Candidates who oppose the war are finding a positive reception for their campaigns.

In Blair’s own seat Reg Keys, whose son Tom was killed in Iraq is gathering massive support, so too Rose Gentle, whose son Gordon was also killed. She is standing in armed forces minister Adam Ingram’s East Kilbride constituency.

Stop the War organised the largest demonstration in British political history. 2 million marched for peace – now those same people have the opportunity to make a real difference.
