Following Israel's attack on Gaza, 9-12 March 2012, in which 25 Palestinians were killed, Ali Abnimah from the Electronic Intifada asks in this video why the right of self-defence which is said to be the right of all people facing attack is always denied to Palestinians.
After over 60 years of occupation, dispossesion and seige, what are Palestinians to do? If they observe a ceasefire they are attacked. If they engage in Gandhi-style passive resistance they are attacked.
When US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, "We reject any equivalence between premeditated murders by a government's military machine and the actions of civilians under seige driven to self-defence," she certainly did not have Israel and Palestinians in mind.
