Stop the War Statement on Sheffield Labour Students meeting
The 'indefinite postponement' amounts to the completely unwarranted silencing of voices critical of government foreign policy
The Stop the War Coalition strongly objects to the decision taken by Sheffield Labour Students to postpone an event to discuss the importance of an anti-war government at which Chris Williamson MP was due to speak alongside Stephen Bell from Stop the War.
The reason given for the cancellation is the police investigation into anti-semitism in the Labour Party. As Sheffield Labour Students say themselves, there is no suggestion that Chris Williamson is in any way connected to this investigation.
The move amounts to the completely unwarranted silencing of voices critical of government foreign policy and we call for the decision to be reversed immediately.
