Public meeting: "War, What is it Good For?"
Thursday 26th September 2013, 7pm, Rook Lane Arts Chapel, Bath Street, Frome. Somerset BA11 1DN
This country has just witnessed one of the most historic parliamentary votes of our time. Parliament chose to reflect public opinion rather than, as Jeremy Corbyn MP put it "go to war whenever the US asks it to". The MP added:
"You do not bomb people to make peace. You make peace by NOT bombing people! Nor is it our job to stop here. We must redouble our efforts for peace and justice"
At this momentous point in Britain's history, Frome Stop the War Campaign (FSTWC) is hosting Jeremy Corbyn--who as a sitting MP as well as chair of the National Stop the War coalition, was at the heart of the pro-war lobby's defeat. He will be supported by Dr Sami Ramadani and Dan Glazebrook, together they will cut through the media's predominantly war propaganda. Their talks will be followed by questions when they will be joined by Mehrnaz Shahabi, a Middle East analyst.
The event, called "War, What is it Good For?", allows the people of Frome hear these authorities analyse the interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and how they relate to the more immediate Western threats to Syria.
