7.30pm Monday 9th December Rumi's Cave, Willesden Lane, London NW6 7ST

Speaker: Jan Woolf

2014 marks the hundredth anniversary of the beginning of the First World War. Far from being a "war to end all wars" or a "victory for democracy", it was a military disaster and a human catastrophe. David Cameron, however, plans to spend £55,000,000 on "truly national commemorations" to mark this anniversary. Cameron has compared the commemorations to the "Diamond Jubilee celebrations" and stated that their aim will be to stress our "national spirit". The No Glory campaign has been started to counter this jingoist approach and ensure the anniversary is used to promote peace and international cooperation.

Jan Woolf is the No Glory campaigns coordinator. She will speak about the campaign to counter David Cameron's plans to "celebrate" the first world war centenary in 2014 and discuss what can be done about it locally.
