Salt in the Wound CD Single |
An Alliance of Alternative Artists have been brought together for a Triple AAA-side single 'SALT In The Wound'. All the acts have a long-term record of dissent against hypocrisy, and each have come out from a long period of inactivity to contribute to this collaboration. The single features ex-Dead Kennedys front-man Jello Biafra guesting as 'the Cowboy President From Hell' with CARPETBOMBERS FOR PEACE, an impromptu band that includes members of Chumbawamba, the Adverts' TV Smith, and rapper Lemn Sissay, on 'Allah Save Queens'. Australian band Change is a Stop the War affiliated band produced by Crass, with their track 'Ceasefire'. And activist punks Conflict contribute a brand-new track, 'A Gaping Hole'. Leeds STW Coalition: Pockets of Resistance |

"This CD was conceived with the twin aims of raising money and raising consciousness, through the powerful and universal medium of music. Initially I e-mailed local bands to gauge interest. Within days I had a small neat pile of CDs of varying quality. within a week or two, enough for a double CD. The reaction to the project, and the bands' willingness to co-operate and in some cases advise, was very encouraging. The resultant CD comprises 19 tracks and is a snapshot of the Leeds music scene as it stands. Some of the artists who have contributed have already achieved fame and notoriety, notably Chumbawamba, stalwarts of agit-prop pop, with their 1st world war trench song, and Carl Puttnam one-time lead vocalist with early nineties chart band 'Cud'. The CD also features newer acts - ones to watch - Steer, Coburn, Lorimer and Joe Ninety - all very much of the moment. The striking thing about the CD is its diversity. The music is very much in the guitar/vocal based tradition, but the songs take you through the gamut of expression, from the gut wrenching ballad 'Ghost Song' by Galitza through to the bile filled angsty rants by the likes of Pop Threat and Lorimer. There are stops along the way in the spaced out worlds of Lazerboy and Boy Guevara, and the wry social comment of Percy. Hood provide a cutting edge sampler track from their latest LP. Rudolph Rocker is 'League of Gentlemen' writer Jeremy Dyson's side project. Some tracks were recorded specifically for, and are exclusive to the album, including the rousing country tinged 'Long Long' by the newly formed Bilderberg Group, and the touching reaction to recent events 'Count the Cost' by M J McCarthy. If you're Anti-War, or if you love guitar music, or if you're one of those extraordinary people who fall into both categories, then you will enjoy this CD. It costs a mere £8. Upwards of £6 of this money goes directly to the Leeds Stop The War Coalition. Buy one for yourself, then buy one for a friend." Graham Bailey More information is available on the Leeds
